Elizabethtown
Lois A. Mires, 73, of Elizabethtown, passed from this life at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.
Mrs. Mires had been an elementary school teacher and also a homemaker. Her teaching career included teaching at Wayne Elementary School, Scipio kindergarten, Columbus Christian School and she had also worked as a substitute teacher.
She was a 1960 graduate of Columbus Senior High School, received her bachelors degree from Ball State University and went on to receive her masters degree from Indiana University.
She was a member of East Columbus United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and was a very active and involved member in her church. She enjoyed serving her family and spending time with all her family. She was a people person and enjoyed music, games, doing jigsaw puzzles and crosswords, she was an avid sports fan especially college basketball and football.
The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver, & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Charles Aigner officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 a.m. to time of service Saturday. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Mrs. Mires was born in Columbus June 30, 1942. She was the daughter of John D. and Lola B. Gobel Waltz.
On July 28, 1963, at East Columbus United Methodist Church, she married Theron “Butch” Mires.
Survivors include her husband, Theron; children, Melinda (David) Foust of Columbus and Theron L. (Jill) Mires of Madison; grandchildren, Emily (Cody) Surenkamp of Seymour, Jonathan Foust of
Columbus, Zoe Mires of Madison and Mia Mires of Madison; a sister, Phyllis (Ron) Byrnes of Columbus; and several nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
