Harlan Lynn Rice, 90, of Oxford, Florida, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at Lady Lake Specialty Care, Lady Lake, Florida.

Born February 28, 1926, in Columbus, Indiana, he was the son of the late Frank and Martha (Powers) Rice.

Harlan was married to Frances Lou Cooper on April 14, 1951, and they raised a family in Madison, Ohio, until her death on May 4, 1982.

Harlan graduated in 1951 from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in architecture.

He served in the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers.

He practiced architecture in Ohio and Indiana for over 30 years.

Harlan was on the Architecture Instructional Staff at Lakeland Community College.

In 1983, Harlan moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, to work in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

After retirement, he and Carl Walker, lived together in Arkansas, Colorado and Indiana for over 25 years.

Harlan is survived by his daughters, Gretchen (Graham) Engdahl of Lady Lake, Florida, and Gracia (James) Morton of Painesville, Ohio; sister, Shirley (Louis) Sylvia of Columbus, Indiana; grandchildren, Sean (Holly) Potter of Charlotte, North Carolina, Erin (Mason) Natalino of Candler, Florida, Colin (Paige) Potter of Summerfield, Florida, Elizabeth(Christopher) Miller of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Alex Morton (Ryan Thomure) of Chicago, Illinois; and great­-grandchildren, Miki, Willow, Kessey, Olivia, Rebekah, Maci, Lincoln and Bennett.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances (Cooper); son, Bradley Scott Rice; sister, Marilyn (Omer) Kinney; and Carl Walker.

A private committal service will be held in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Brown County Art Guild, (in Memory of Harlan Rice) P.O. Box 324, Nashville, Indiana 47448.
