Woman arrested after argument escalates

A local woman was arrested on domestic violence charges after a verbal argument escalated.

Kris Johnson, 44, 223 Dawson St., was arrested on charges of battery with a deadly weapon, domestic battery and battery resulting in bodily injury, deputies said.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Whipker was sent to the 200 block of Dawson Street about the incident at about 8 p.m. Saturday, deputies said.

Whipker found Johnson sitting in the front yard of the residence, deputies said. The victim told Whipker that the incident, which involved a knife, started out as a verbal argument but escalated when Johnson began to strike him, deputies said.

The victim was head-butted and cut under his left toe, deputies said. Johnson and the victim were taken to Columbus Regional Hospital to be checked.

Johnson is being held in lieu of $25,000 bond at the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials said.
