Brian’s picks – June 16

In a crowded field of a cappella groups, Naturally 7 gives voice to the concept that a collection of vocalists using their singing literally as an instrument — guitars, flutes, percussion, you name it — will stand apart from the rest. The act that’s bigger in Europe than in America brings its pop covers and original tunes to the Columbus Area Arts Council’s free Live on The Plaza concert at 7 p.m. June 17 at the Bartholomew County Public Library Plaza, 536 Fifth St. in Columbus. Rain location is The Commons, 300 Washington St. Information: artsincolumbus.org.

If there were a watching-paint-dry festival to benefit Love Chapel outreach in Columbus, my fingers could not type fast enough to put my recommendation right here, such is the program’s exemplary, selfless impact. But good news: the June 18, 9 a.m. annual Girlfriend Ride, with either a 22-mile or 34-mile tour, peddles plenty of outdoorsy, healthy fun for women only. And yes, the event that begins at the Columbus Learning Center generates funds for the nonprofit that helps the struggling via a food pantry, rent and utilities assistance and much more.
