Two Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department summer Youth Academy programs have concluded with participants learning about ATV safety, K-9 units, scuba diving, firearms safety, boating, fishing and how to give back to the community.

The academy for 6- to 9-year-olds concluded June 3 and the academy for 10- to 14-year-olds concluded June 10.

The sheriff’s department asked that participants donate at least one canned good per day to the academy for Love Chapel in Columbus. More than 1,000 canned goods were donated to the Love Chapel’s food bank.

Also participating in the camp were Indiana Conservation Officers, Columbus Police Department, Homeland Security, Indiana State Excise police, Indiana State Police, Indiana University police and Bartholomew County Emergency Management.

Sponsors for the academy programs were the American Legion, Fraternal Order of Police, Boyer Machine & Tool Co., Snappy Tomato Pizza, Friends of Matt Myers, Timberline Restoration, Jimmy Johns, Sullivan Sign Co., Tony London Co. and CERAland.
