Roger Ott

Columbus

Roger Marshall Ott, 63, of Columbus, died at 11:15pm, Friday June 17, 2016 at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Roger was a lifelong farmer in the Columbus area. He had a “green thumb” and was considered a master gardener amongst family and friends. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and feeding everyone. Roger was truly the king of “oneliners”, so much in fact, he affected multiple generations with his quick witted humor. He found entertainment in being a jokester and giving everyone a nickname. Roger adored his children and grandchildren, loved his tractors and found enjoyment in taking his dog, Harley, for rides in the truck or going to the river to play.

Roger was a fan of baseball, traveling and oysters. He was a genuine family man and “life of the party”.

Roger Ott was born Aug. 20, 1952, in Bartholomew County, to the late Marshall and Betty Crank Ott.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Ferguson Ott (whom he married on June 12, 1976, and just two Sundays ago, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary); children, Lynsey Metz and Clayton (Lindsey) Ott; grandchildren, Nolan Ott and Blaize and Talyah Metz, and their father, Zach Metz; brothers, Bruce (Marsha) Ott and Mike (Cindy) Ott; sister, Jill Welch; nephews, Tyler Ott, Ethan (Dericka) Ott, Cameron and Daniel Welch and Aaron (Valerie) Ferguson; nieces, Lisa (Darryl) Kinchen, Shelley (John) Cowan and Cassie (Jonathan) Myers; brothers-in-law, Larry (Linda) Ferguson and Mike (Becky) Ferguson; several cousins, great-nieces and -nephews; and best friend, Pat Jones.

Roger is preceded in death by brother-in-law, Jeff Welch; mother- and father-in-law, John and Elra Ferguson; and his beloved dog, Harley.

There are no services planned at this time.
