Police arrest suspect accused of stealing liquor from grocery store

Columbus police arrested a 30-year-old local man who was accused of stealing about $600 worth of liquor from Kroger.

Officers were sent to the store at 3110 N. National Road at about 4:50 p.m. Monday about a person grabbing liquor bottles and fleeing the store, getting into a vehicle waiting near an exit, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officers tracked the vehicle and found it as it pulled up to a residence in the 900 block of California Street, Harris said.

When speaking to the occupants of the vehicle, officers saw several bottles of liquor in the backseat of the vehicle.

Officers also noted a passenger, Christopher S. Bryant, 30, 1327 Ninth St., was attempting to hide a syringe, Harris said.

Bryant fled from officers on foot and was found hiding in a nearby shed before being arrested, Harris said.

Bryant was arrested on charges of theft, resisting law enforcement, criminal mischief and possession of a drug injection device, Harris said.
