Churches aid food pantries with benefit

A local food fundraising event to help stock food pantry shelves raised a total of 2,711 food items and $250 in cash from seven participating Indiana United Methodist churches during the month of May.

The e-Race Hunger benefit seeks to raise donations of much-needed non-perishable food items for local food pantries in May as donations are usually at their lowest then.

In Columbus, Asbury UMC donated 825 items and White Creek UMC donated 170 items to Love Chapel. Cana UMC in rural Jennings County donated 266 items to the Good Samaritan Food Pantry in North Vernon.
