Columbus students awarded scholarships

Three local students were awarded scholarships and dinner at Chicago’s Pizza by the Evening Kiwanis Club of Columbus.

Haley Bryant, Columbus East High School, and Catherine Prall, Columbus North High School, received one-year grants of $750, and Nathaniel Redd from Columbus Signature Academy — New Tech won an interest-free loan for the 2016 Scholarship Foundation. They are each qualified for three additional years of interest-free loans.

Recipients were selected by the club’s scholarship committee after completing the application, introducing themselves to club members, describing their college plans and answering questions from members.

Students earn honors at colleges

Several local students earned honors at their colleges. They were:

Franklin College: Akia Dawn Hilderbrand, Joshua Marcus Holt and Abigail Cheyenne Jones, all of Columbus, dean’s list; Michelle N. Murphy, Columbus, president’s list.

Seton Hall University: Sloane Kirsch, Columbus, spring dean’s list.

Yen earns master’s degree at school

David Yen, Columbus, earned his Master of Science in industrial engineering in May from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

Moody joins honors group at Indiana State

Weston Roarke Moody, Columbus, was recognized by Sigma Alpha Lambda of Indiana State University as a member.

Sigma Alpha Lambda is a national leadership and honors organization that promotes and rewards academic achievement. It provides community service, personal development and professional opportunities.
