Harry Marvin Burkman, 83, of Columbus, formerly of Scipio, passed away at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2016, at IU Health Methodist in Indianapolis.

Born April 18, 1933, in Jennings County, Mr. Burkman was the son of the late Grover and Minnie Mae Bliton Burkman. He married Carolyn Bowman on October 3, 1954, in Scipio. She preceded him in death on December 31, 2015.

Mr. Burkman worked as a welder for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus. He was a 1951 graduate of North Vernon High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. He attended Brown’s Corner Chapel in Scipio.

Survivors include one son, Roger (Verna) Burkman of El Paso, Texas; three daughters, Nancy (John) Hartman and Susan (Jim) Albertson of Columbus, Indiana, and Lisa (Brad) Brinker of Troy, Michigan; brother, Robert Burkman of Hope; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Paul, Charles, Glen, and his twin brother, Harold Burkman; and sisters, Lora Barringer and Jean Bannister.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with the Rev. Jim Albertson officiating. Family and friends may call Thursday fromĀ  11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be at Bear Creek Baptist Cemetery in Jennings County with members of Matt Hester Post 2021 V.F.W. providing military graveside rites.
