Honda Motor Co. officially announced it would build a $550 million auto plant in Decatur County, employing 2,000 people to produce 200,000 units of four-cylinder vehicles annually.

1991

Christine W. Letts of Columbus, a former Cummins Inc. vice president and current Department of Transportation commissioner, was appointed by Gov. Evan Bayh to be the first secretary of the new Indiana Family and Social Services Administration.

1966

The quarter-block parking lot at the southeast corner of Sixth and Franklin streets was donated by the Irwin-Sweeney-Miller Foundation to Bartholomew County Public Library to be used as a below-ground-level loading dock and a parking area at the children’s entrance to the new library building.
