Wanted man arrested after failed barricade

A Columbus man tried to barricade himself in a bathroom to avoid Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department detectives who were attempting to serve a warrant.

Michael F. Childers, 24, 1314 Lafayette Ave., was taken into custody about 10:12 a.m. Monday on a warrant for violation of probation on charges of criminal confinement, domestic battery, intimidation and possession of marijuana, deputies said.

Capt. Christopher Roberts and Detective Jason Williams were attempting to serve the warrant to Childers in the 1300 block of Franklin Street, deputies said.

When they arrived, a man let them inside the home where they met another man who identified himself as Childers’ father. When they located Childers, he attempted to barricade himself inside a bathroom but was arrested without further incident, deputies said.

Childers is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bond, jail officials said.
