Helen R. Kittle, 93, of Columbus, passed from this life at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Silver Oaks Health Campus.

Mrs. Kittle was born June 18, 1923, in Wilmington, North Carolina, to Gibson and Mary Lily Burns Register. She married Robert V. Kittle December 1, 1945. He preceded her in death March 28, 1976.

Mrs. Kittle received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from East Carolina University.

She was a teacher in Wilmington for 23 years before moving to Columbus in 1967. She continued her teaching career as an elementary school teacher with Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp., retiring in 1989 after 22 years of service.

Mrs. Kittle was a member of Fairlawn Presbyterian Church and she enjoyed caring for her garden.

Survivors include her children, Sarah K. Kittle of Columbus, Mary H. (Francis) Stotts of Edinburgh, Bobbi L. (Bob) Kennedy of Petersburg, Virginia, and Robert V. (JoAnna) Kittle Jr. of Columbus; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Mrs. Kittle was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Carolyn Gore.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Lee Dorsey officiating.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday.

Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
