Franklin Asbury Kreps, age 91, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016. He passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Sept. 4, 1924, the son of Frank Asbury and Lillian Russell (Overhiser) Kreps. Frank married Gretchen A. Moffitt on November 12, 1949, and she survives.

Frank was a graduate of Technical High School, class of 1942. He attended Butler University for one year before entering into active duty with the United States Navy. Frank served with Carrier Air Group 14 as an air crewman in torpedo bombers aboard the aircraft carriers USS Wasp and USS Intrepid. Frank served with the active U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He then served with the Naval Reserves from 1946 to 1955.

Frank returned to Butler University where he was active with his Sigma Nu Fraternity. He earned a Business Administration Degree from Butler in 1949.

Frank and Gretchen moved to Columbus, Indiana, to raise their two sons. Frank retired from Irwin Union Bank and Trust in 1986 as a Vice President and Loan Officer. He was a member of North Christian Church where he served as deacon, elder and treasurer. He was a life member of the Columbus Elks Lodge, past board member of Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department, member, volunteer and committee member at the Senior Center, member of Senior Center Investment Club, Housing Partnership Client Selection Committee member and past president and board member of Washington Park Co-Owners Association.

Besides his wife Gretchen, Frank is survived by his two sons, Frank A. Kreps (Bettye Dunham) of Elizabeth, Indiana, and Bart M. Kreps and his wife Jeri Lynn Kreps of Columbus; his granddaughters, Katina Tooley (husband Ben), Kaitlin Downs (husband Matthew), Kelsey Kreps and Kori Babb; his great-grandchildren, Logan and Lake Kaisher, Kaden Tooley, Paige, Payton, and Gretchen Babb.

The viewing and funeral will be held at Myers-Reed Chapel on Friday, July 8. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until noon with funeral following at noon, with Chaplain Annette Barnes officiating. Entombment will be at Garland Brook Cemetery, Columbus. Military rites will be conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
