Two youths arrested on drug charges

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two teenagers from Columbus on charges of drug dealing and possession after a property-damage accident near State Road 7 North and County Road 950N in Geneva Township.

The accident happened at 12:02 a.m. Saturday involving a Jeep Wrangler and a Volkswagen Passat, deputies said.

While investigating, deputies found pills in plain view on the driver’s side floorboard of the Volkswagen. The occupants, ages 16 and 17, had a large amount of pills and money in their possession, deputies said.

The teens told deputies they were on their way home to Columbus from the Madison Regatta.

Deputies recovered more than 100 Alprazolam pills, a schedule IV controlled substance used to treat anxiety disorders, investigators said. The deputies also recovered a gram of cocaine, a schedule II controlled substance, and $1,034 in cash.

The teenagers were taken to the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center and are being held without bond, each charged with dealing and possession of a controlled substance.

Names of the minor suspects were not released.
