Ernest Wayne “Ernie” Myers, 78, of Columbus, passed away in the comfort of his own home at 1 a.m. July 4, 2016.

Ernie was born Feb. 9, 1938, in Salem, the son of Arthur Ernest and Lottie Angeline Hughes Myers. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, trapper and golfer. He was widely known for his cooking and canning and was loved by all who knew him. He will be truly missed.

Survivors include his brother, Ronnie Myers of Pekin; sons, Doug Myers of Columbus, Dean Myers of Scipio and Neal (Billie) Myers of Scottsburg; stepdaughters, Teresa Milby, Tammy Graves and Kathy Spears; grandchildren, Brittney Myers, Hunter Myers, Andy Vires and Hilari Vires; several great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildre; and too many friends to list.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his companion of 30 years, Peggy Norris; a sister, Carolyn Sue Yeadon; and a granddaughter, Brooke Vires.

In keeping with Ernie’s wishes, cremation is planned. There will be no calling but a celebration of Ernie’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Columbus Regional Hospital Foundation.
