Services and studies

First Baptist — The Rev. Dan Cash will deliver the message, “Being Aware, Being Watchful,” with Scripture from Luke 12:35-40, Matthew 13:33-37 and 25:13 at the 9:30 a.m. service at the church, 3300 Fairlawn Drive. Music worship will be led by an ensemble performing “As We Sail to Heaven’s Shore.” Child care is available for infants. Older children will leave during the service for children’s church where the story of Ezekiel, from Ezekiel 37:1-14, will be presented.

Classes for all ages will begin at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. A six-week Sunday school alternative class, “Walking the Bible,” will be available for adults.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

The Mending Ministry will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Four Seasons Retirement Center, 1902 Taylor Road, to do mending for residents.

The Evening Kids Camp, sponsored by First Lutheran Church and First Baptist, will meet from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist. The curriculum, “The Jesus Way,” will be presented and a light supper will be served. Most of the activities will take place outdoors.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Pastor Kirby Rupp will deliver the message, “You are the Angels of Mercy,” during the 10 a.m. service at the church, 12703 N. County Road 50W, Edinburgh. Scripture will be from Amos 7:7-17, Colossians 1:1-14 and Luke 10:25-37. Sunday school begins at 9 a.m. with fellowship at 9:40 a.m.

The Wednesday Bible study is on summer hiatus.

Petersville United Methodist — The Rev. Edward Scherer-Berry will bring the message at the 9 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 2781 N. County Road 500E. He will be standing in for his wife, the Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry, who will be on a mission trip to Uganda with her daughter, Kezia. The liturgist will be Joe Bush, and Teresa Covert will give the children’s sermon.

Kids Night Out is from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The program is geared toward youth ages 4 to 12 are invited, but 3-year-olds may attend if accompanied by an adult. The evening will consist of snacks, stories and songs. Deb Loper will be the storyteller.

The Walking Group will meet at 9 a.m. Monday and Wednesday at the church. The Prayer Group will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Bible studies are on summer break.

Music

Calvary Christian — Grace Harmony, a Christian music ministry team, will be performing at 7 p.m. July 20 at the church, 76652 E. State Road 252, Edinburgh. The community is invited to attend the evening of Christian music.

Solid Rock — A gospel concert will be at 10 a.m. Sunday at Solid Rock Community Church, 3203 N. Blanton Road, Scottsburg, seven miles east of Austin on State Road 256. It will feature Ernie Dawson and Heirline from Jasper, Tennessee.

Events

Old Union United Church of Christ — A pork chop dinner is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 2. The church is at 12703 N. County Road 50W, Edinburgh.

Petersville United Methodist — The United Methodist Men’s group will host a neighborhood outdoor picnic at 6 p.m. July 17 at the church, 2781 N. County Road 500E. Hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks and ice cream will be provided. Those attending are asked to bring side dishes, salads and desserts. Lawn chairs should also be brought and everyone is encouraged to bring school supplies to be distributed to neighborhood children.
