• Wayne Township Fire Department, EMT Tom and his partner and the Columbus Regional Hospital nurses and doctor for your excellent care.

• the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair Board for another great fair.

• Columbus Transit for providing shuttle service to the fairgrounds each day, from a loyal rider.

• the Columbus Police Department for the Youth Academy, which my grandson attended.

• Jim, Tim and Pam at Loesch Heating and Air for the response and quick service on my air conditioner, from a very happy customer.

• Dan, HLCC chef, for being the best-kept secret in town.

• Clifty Creek Golf Course for being so well-kept and beautiful.

• the very helpful cashier at the south side Walmart who helped me with my coupons at the self-checkout.

• the Rev. Gordon Gilley and Bethel Wesleyan Church for an excellent Bible study Sunday evening.

• Deputies Dugan and Bush for their prompt response to our attic fire call, from the Ridgewood Drive residents.

• the Clay Township Volunteer Fire Department for their quick response and their hard work on saving our house from the attic fire, from the Ridgewood Drive residents.

• Travis Glick for coming to our aid after the attic fire, which caused him to miss important family time, from the Ridgewood Drive residents.

• all the girls and guys at Webb’s Garage for fixing my air conditioner.

• Dr. Nieters, Debbie and the nursing staff for always seeing to the needs of their patients, from Beverly.

• the person who paid for the dinner of the firefighter and his wife Saturday at Bob Evan’s.

• Mayor Jim Lienhoop for his help with an escort for our event and his support for our veterans, from American Legion Post 24.

• Columbus Police Department for the escort, the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department and The Republic for all the help and support for the event, from American Legion Post 24.

Onions to …

• people who don’t realize the reason some of us drive below the speed limit is because we’re being extra cautious of bike riders that never stop at stop signs.

• the mother who negligently permitted her young daughter to repeatedly scream shrilly and run throughout a popular retail store.

• the woman at the fair who rudely told the mother with the baby she had to wait in line for the baby station when there were no other babies in line.

• those who can’t comprehend allowing chickens is going to be as bad as allowing fireworks.

• the local restaurant for serving a sandwich with a pitiful amount of sauce on it, and then adding a charge after a request for extra sauce.

• drivers who don’t understand that, when a traffic light is down, that intersection becomes a four-way stop.

• those who are too “chicken” to make a decision on the chicken issue.

• test boxes ruining the roads in our neighborhood.

• people who try to defraud the United States government on their income taxes.

• everybody complaining about chickens.

• the radio station for not updating its programs.

• cruel homeowners who leave their dogs in a stuffy, hot garage when they have sufficient, fenced-in yards.

• those responsible for the stoplight on State Road 11 and County Road 200S as it is messed up more often than it works.

• The Republic for forgetting there are more than just two law enforcement agencies in Bartholomew County.

• the people who are still setting off fireworks.

• grown children who treat their mother horribly.

• inconsiderate neighbors who are still setting of fireworks a week after the Fourth of July.

• the person in the red Toyota truck for weaving in and out of traffic and tailgating everyone on 46 as they came back into town.

• The Republic for turning the front page of the paper into classified ads for the realtors in Columbus.
