Metal band Viken to host concert at VFW

Local metal/hard rock band Viken will host a concert and CD release party at 8 p.m. to midnight Friday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, 215 N. National Road in Columbus. Local group Mama’s Headache will open the show.

Viken, which consists of lead guitarist and vocalist Brent Lewis, Chad Monk on drums and vocals, and bassist and vocalist Benjamin Lewis, is marking the release of its debut disc, “Reduced to Ash.” The trio is from Columbus.

The disc will be available at the show. But it also will be available on iTunes, Google Play, Amazon and other online retail outlets. Physical copies also will be available through the band’s Facebook page.

The group’s influences range from Judas Priest and Iron Maiden to John Fogerty and Creedence Clearwater Revival.

The band is working with an agent and promoter to land bookings at music festivals and other events. Viken’s first single is “The Ancients,” and the official lyric video is on youtube.com.
