North graduate tied for 24th in Indiana Open

FRENCH LICK — Michael VanDeventer fired a 1-under-par 69 Wednesday to move into a tie for 24th going into today’s final round of the Indiana Open Championship at French Lick’s Donald Ross Course.

VanDeventer, a Columbus North graduate who will be a junior at Ball State, is sitting at 9-over 219 after three rounds. Another North graduate, Ian Coffey, who will be a junior at St. Francis, carded a 75 Wednesday and is tied for 54th at 225.

North golfer falls in opening round of match play

WEST LAFAYETTE — Drew Smith fell to Will Kirchmer of Fishers 1-up Wednesday in the match play Round of 64 in the Boys State Junior Championship.

Smith, who will be a sophomore at Columbus North, had tied for 30th at 155 after two days of stroke play at Purdue’s Kampen Course.
