Government finance workshop available for community leaders

The Bartholomew County Purdue Extension Office is sponsoring a local government finance workshop next month to educate community leaders about the local government revenue system.

The workshop, which will be from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 1, is designed for elected and appointed officials, economic development professionals and community leaders in Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Jennings, Johnson and Shelby counties. The seminar will be conducted in Columbus City Hall, 123 Washington St.

Four speakers will give presentations about property tax systems and tax caps and will use real county data to help participants understand the financial systems in their jurisdictions.

The speakers will include:

  • Larry DeBoer, Purdue department of agricultural economics
  • Tamara Ogle, Purdue Extension community development
  • George Okantey, Purdue Extension Marion County
  • Hans Schmitz, Purdue Extension Gibson County
