Butlerville

H. Dean Perkins, 89, of Butlerville, passed away at 9:05 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2016, in Butlerville.

Born Nov. 4, 1927, in Jennings County, in what is now known as the Jefferson Proving Grounds, the son of Ora A. Perkins and Edith M. Schonfield Perkins. He married Olive Marie Laherty on Nov. 22, 1946, in Butlerville, and she preceded him in death on May 15, 2009.

Mr. Perkins was a 1945 graduate of Butlerville High School. He was a lifelong farmer and drove a school bus for Jennings County Schools for 26 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a military policeman. He was a 50 plus year member of the Butlerville Masonic Lodge, former member of Butlerville Baptist Church and attended First Church of the Nazarene in North Vernon. Mr. Perkins served on the board of directors for the former First National Bank in North Vernon and the Merchants National Bank branches in North Vernon and Seymour. He served on the advisory board of former National City Bank branches of North Vernon and Seymour and the former First Community Bank in North Vernon before retiring in June of 2000. His hobbies included spending time with family and friends, watching college basketball, baseball and football, helping take care of the cattle and riding ATV around the farm.

He is survived by his daughter, Mari DeAnn (Dennis) Sharp of Butlerville; two grandsons, Josh (Katie) Yeager and Jeremy Yeager both of Butlerville, Indiana; and four great-grandchildren, Amber Yeager of Butlerville, Brittany Yeager, Jasper Yeager and Sierra Moore, all of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; son, Michael Dean Perkins on July 10, 1980; a brother, Floyd Eugene Perkins; and an infant son.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at the First Church of the Nazarene in North Vernon with the Rev. Richard Burcham and the Rev. Caleb Reynolds officiating. The visitation will be held at the Nazarene Church from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2016, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. by the Butlerville Masonic Lodge. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon with military graveside rites provided by members of Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F.W.
