Southern Indiana Select to conduct open tryouts

The Southern Indiana Select 12U baseball team will have free open tryouts at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Ceraland.

High school lacrosse club looking for athletes

The Columbus Lacrosse Club will conduct lacrosse drop-in sessions through the fall for high school age students (entering grades 9 through 12). The sessions will take place each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on the west side of Parkside school. This is a great opportunity to try out the sport in a supervised setting. Equipment will be provided.

Lacrosse is a spring club sport at Columbus East and Columbus North high schools. For more information about youth lacrosse in Columbus, check out columbuslax.org.

Youth flag football registration scheduled

Columbus Youth Flag Football will be conducting registration for the upcoming fall season.

Players can register at Hamilton Ice Arena on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon or Monday, Aug. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The cost is $100 per player for the season, but there is a discount if multiple family members sign up. All games are played on Sunday afternoons at the Columbus North football stadium.

Registration underway for flag football tourney

The Columbus Flag Football League Summer 2016 Tournament will be Saturday at the PAAL fields. Games begin at 9 a.m.

Men will play 7-on-7 and have a maximum roster of 14, and women will play 4-on-4 and have a maximum roster of eight. Cost per player is $25 for men and $15 for women. Commissioner Larry Anthony is asking that each men’s team pay a minimum of five player fees and each women’s team pay a minimum of four player fees by Monday.

First Tee to host golf scramble at Harrison Lake

The First Tee of Indiana-Columbus Chapter will host a golf scramble at 1 p.m. Friday at Harrison Lake Country Club.

Cost is $125 per player. Sponsorships also are available. Proceeds will benefit The First Tee of Indiana-Columbus Chapter.

Hoosier Pro Wrestling to present two shows

Hoosier Pro Wrestling will present the Brown County Rumble at 7:45 p.m. Friday at the Brown County Fair. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $15 for pits, $5 for kids ages 4 to 11 and free for kids 3 and younger.

Saturday night, HPW will hold “Summer Blast” at 7:45 p.m. at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds. Gates open at 7 p.m. Admission is $12, with kids 4 and younger free.

Dirt Dawgs baseball filling travel-team roster

The Columbus Dirt Dawgs travel baseball club will be holding tryouts for the 2017 season Saturday on diamonds 13 through 16 at Clifty Park. Tryouts for the 8U, 9U and 11U teams will begin at 9 a.m.

The 14U Dirt Dawgs are still looking for two players to complete their roster for the 2017 season. 14U tryouts will also be held Saturday at 9 a.m. on diamonds 13 to 16 at Clifty Park.

Spots up for grabs during Red Alert softball tryouts

The Red Alert Platinum 14U softball team will be conducting tryouts to fill some open roster spots.

The tryouts will take place Aug. 7 and Aug. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. on Diamond 10 at Clifty Park, located at Marr Road and Indiana Avenue.

The team, which plays USSSA Select, ASA and PGF events, is looking for a pitcher to add to its staff as well as an infielder/athlete to fill out a solid returning roster.

Legends golf outing to benefit all-star game

Aug. 12 is the deadline to register for The Legends of Indiana Basketball Golf Classic, which will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 20 at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin. Registration will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and legends will sign autographs from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Cost is $125 per player or $500 per team and includes greens fees, a cart, lunch, dinner, prizes and silent and live auctions. Proceeds benefit The Indiana Class Basketball All-Star Classic.

Ceraland to host fall baseball, softball leagues

Aug. 15 is the deadline to register for the CERA Sports Fall Baseball and Fall Fastpitch Leagues, which begin Aug. 21 at Ceraland.

Both leagues will have 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U and high school divisions. The 8U leagues will be coaches pitch.

Cost is $425 for the baseball leagues and $350 for the softball leagues. T-shirts will be provided by the teams, but players must provide their own equipment.

Baseball players can register for fall league

The High School Baseball Fall League, a network of wood-bat leagues in multiple states including Indiana, is open to all players who will be in high school next year. The six-week regular season will be played Sundays beginning Aug. 21.

Registration is $239 and is available until a week before the league begins. Players will receive a pro model wood birch bat, a team Dri-fit game jersey and a free college player profile.

Players can register individually and have the opportunity to enter the names of players they would like to be paired with under the “Teammate Request” section of the registration page at hsfbl.com.

Demand Command teams conducting open tryouts

Demand Command will host open tryouts for its 2017 youth baseball and softball teams in August at a pair of area high schools.

Baseball tryouts will be conducted for all age groups at the Brown County High School baseball field Aug. 13. The 8U and 9U age division tryouts will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m., followed by 10U and 11U from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; 12U and 13U (1 to 2:30 p.m.); 14U and 15U (3 to 4:30 p.m.); and 16U and 17U (5 to 7 p.m.).

Softball tryouts will be Aug. 20 at the Bloomington North softball complex. The 8U age division players are invited to try out from 9 to 10:30 a.m., followed by 10U (11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.); 12U (1 to 2:30 p.m.); 14U (3 to 4:30 p.m.) and 16U (5 to 7 p.m.).

Demand Command is owned and operated by former MLB baseball pitcher Zach McClellan. Its teams compete successfully in regional and national tournaments from March through July annually. Demand Command facilities are located in Bloomington and Columbus.

Northside tennis to host meeting, tryouts

Northside boys tennis will be a brief informational meeting at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at Northside, prior to the open house that begins at 6:30 p.m.

Tryouts for the team will be from 4:45 to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and, if needed, Friday at Lincoln Park. Players need to have a completed IHSAA physical form turned in by Wednesday.
