Anne Smith, 80, of Taylor Road, passed away at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at Four Seasons Healthcare.

Anne was born March 20, 1936, in Jennings County, the daughter of Cecil A. and Crystal L. Pierce Smith.

Anne graduated from Vernon High School in Vernon, Indiana. She served approximately 40 years at Muscatatuck State Hospital on the dietary support staff and was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church in Jennings County.

She loved cats, dogs, backyard birds, jigsaw puzzles and making latch hook rugs.

Anne found a special delight in having adventures with loved ones and family, never losing her childlike excitement for fun.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, at New Bethel United Methodist Church, 3020 E. County Road 850N, North Vernon, with the Rev. Connie Barr officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bartholomew County Humane Society through the funeral home.

Survivors include her sister, Carol L. Fortner of Indianapolis; nephews, Randall B. Bird of Atlanta, Georgia, and Stephen (Rita) Fortner of Plainfield, Illinois; nieces, Elaine Bass and Judith Villegas, both of Indianapolis, Rose (Gene) Thompson of Minneapolis and Sheila Fortner of Greenwood; and a brother-in-law, James Settle of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Claire Mae Settle and Cletha Faye Bird; and nephews, Troy L. Settle and Preston Z. Fortner.
