Two men are being held on drug-related charges after detectives from the Join Narcotics Enforcement Team arrested them in separate incidents Wednesday night.
Assisted by the Columbus Police Department, officers arrested Brian “Big Country” Jones, 40, Columbus, on preliminary charges of two counts of dealing heroin and possession of heroin, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Officers also arrested Steve “Neno” Whitley, 51, Indianapolis, on preliminary charges of two counts of dealing heroin, possession of heroin and possession of cocaine, Harris said.
The arrests resulted from several anonymous complaints about suspicious activity which led to the narcotics investigation, Harris said. Jones was arrested during a traffic stop Wednesday night on Third Street, where officers found that he had heroin, Harris said.
While preparing to serve a search warrant on a house in the 700 block of Union Street, officers found Whitley on the porch, Harris said. Police arrested him after he was accused of throwing a sock containing heroin to the ground as officers approached, Harris said. Officers confiscated nearly $2,200 from Whitley during the arrest. Officers found items used to package narcotics and drug paraphernalia including syringes, spoons and scales in the Union Street house, Harris said.
Both men are being held on a 48-hour hold at the Bartholomew County Jail without bond, jail officials said.
