Judith Gaskins

Judith A. Gaskins, 71, of Indianapolis, formerly of Columbus, Indiana, departed this life Sunday, June 5, 2016.

She was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, to the late William and M. Aileen (Johnson) Gaskins.

Judy was a graduate of Indiana State University. She was the librarian for Central Middle School in Columbus for 34 years. Judy helped lay the groundwork for the students to learn computer science, working long hours before and after school. She was also one of the official scorekeepers for the basketball games, and worked field events for the track team. Judy was an avid reader and did some writing. Here is where her love for science fiction and fantasy began, traveling the country attending fan run conventions and sharing her experiences with her students. Judy enjoyed ice skating and was a member of the Hamilton Center Ice Arena for many years.

Judy is survived by her sister, Janet (Tom) Higbie; nephews, Eric and Jeff; and nieces, Beth (Mike) Gootee and Diane (Nathan) Marrett.

A brother, Gerald “Jerry” Gaskins, preceded her in death.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2016, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 2651 California St., Columbus, with visitation one hour prior. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Final care and arrangements are entrusted to Shirley Brothers Mortuaries & Crematory, Indianapolis.
