For the first time, Columbus East and North football teams put on pads and played football on new artificial turfs at John Stafford Field and Max Andress Field.

Regal Rugs of North Vernon bought Dundee Mills’ rug division in Ellijay, Georgia, and announced it would move its cotton operation to the new plant by October, leaving synthetic rug manufacturing and more than 200 jobs in North Vernon.

1966

After water levels in wells fell 20 to 25 feet, an appeal to “go easy” on the use of water was issued to residents of Jewell Village southeast of Columbus.
