Pregnant woman OK after van rolls over in single-vehicle accident

A Columbus woman who is 33 weeks pregnant was involved in a single-vehicle accident on a county road when she lost control of her van, which left the roadway and rolled over, police said.

At about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Paige Newcomb, 19, Columbus, was traveling west on County Road 600N when the wheel of her van locked up as she reached the intersection with County Road 700E, Hope Police Chief Matt Tallent said.

The locking of the wheel caused Newcomb to veer off the road. When the van’s tires dug into the grass, it caused the vehicle to roll over once and land upright, he said.

Newcomb complained of head pain and was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital, Tallent said.

Newcomb was not admitted to the hospital, however. She and her fetus were monitored for a short time just to make sure everything was fine, after which time she was released, hospital spokeswoman Kelsey DeClue said.
