Part of KC and the Sunshine Band rocks at Garage

Mother Nature rained out KC and the Sunshine Band’s scheduled concert at Saturday’s Rock the Park, but three band members staged a bit of a performance all the same late in the evening at The Garage Pub & Grill on Fourth Street in Columbus.

Keyboardist Chris Cadenhead, drummer David Simmons and bass player Steve Lashley joined popular Columbus rock cover band Oddz R on its third set of the night with an improvised version of Wild Cherry’s 1976 hit “Play That Funky Music.”

“It’s a rock standard that everybody knows,” said Reed England of Oddz R. “And we let them showcase themselves.”

The tune drew so many people to the dance floor that England couldn’t see the bar. The musical teamwork marks the second time that Oddz R has jammed with members of a Rock the Park headliner. In 2012, Foreigner’s guitarist and drummer joined Oddz R at Fourth Street Bar & Grill for a few post-concert tunes.

KC’s folks thanked Oddz R members and offered a nice parting shot: “You guys ought to be on tour.”
