Olympians sweep Cougars

BLOOMINGTON — The Class 4A No. 5 Columbus East volleyball team had little trouble in its season opener Tuesday, rolling to a 25-22, 25-18, 25-11 win at Bloomington North.

Bailey Western recorded 20 kills and a block, Kendall Williams notched 35 assists and an ace and Cortney VanLiew had 20 digs an an ace to lead the Olympians. VanLiew also added 14 kills, while Williams had seven kills.

Alaysha Pollert recorded 18 digs. McKenna Chandler and C.J. Clausen each had one block, and Brooke Banister and Seena Greiwe each served two aces.

Cougars stop Shiners

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran opened its season with a 25-16, 25-14, 25-11 win against Rising Sun.

Chloe Criswell pounded seven kills, and Sami Newmister served four aces for the Cougars. Savannah Harweger added five kills, and Abby Schult had four kills.

Crusaders edge Lions

BLOOMINGTON — Kyle Foster scored three unassisted goals to lead Columbus Christian to a season-opening 4-3 win at Bloomington Lighthouse.

Taylor Hilliard scored the other goal for the Crusaders off an assist from Nate Stamper. Evan Reed recorded 10 saves.

Jets fall to Golden Bears

SHELBYVILLE — Sam Meek beat Luke Foltz 6-2, 2-6, (10-6) at No. 2 singles, but that was Hauser’s lone point in a season-opening 4-1 loss at Shelbyville.

Justin Compton fell to Evan Phares 6-2, 4-6 (10-5) at No. 1 singles, and Jacob Rudd lost to J.T. Uhif 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Alex Gross and Jacob Johnson fell to Connor Phelps and Luke Asher 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Sean Miller and Jacob Rose lost to Peyton McQueen and Bryce Asher 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
