Kroger donates $256,009 as part of grand opening

Kroger is opening its new, 124,000-square-foot Marketplace store at 8 a.m. today, adding 167 new jobs to create a workforce of 353 associates based at the 3060 N. National Road location in Columbus.

As part of the grand opening event for its nearly $21 million store, Kroger is donating $256,009 to community organizations, according to a news release from the company’s Indianapolis-based Central Division. That breaks down as:

•$500 each to the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Love Chapel of Columbus, Turning Point Domestic Violence Services, Young Marines Youth Organization and Columbus Symphony Orchestra.

•$24,509 to the American Red Cross.

•$229,000 to Riley’s Children Foundation.
