Evaluations scheduled for Donner Swim Club

Donner Swim Club is conducting evaluations for Green Team members and new swimmers from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at the Columbus North High School pool. Swimmers should bring a suit, towel and goggles.

Indiana Nitro softball team to conduct tryouts

Tryouts for the Indiana Nitro 16U softball team will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Northside Middle School.

The team, led by veteran coach Ed Loweth, has a core group of players returning, but all positions will be considered. This year, the team played in four fall tournaments, two college doubleheaders/exposures, one winter tournament and seven summer tournaments.

North vs. East football tickets, T-shirts on sale

Tickets for Friday’s Columbus East at Columbus North football game will be on sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday in the North athletics office.

Tickets are $5 and also will be available at the game on Friday. Also, a special T-shirt with the slogan “Paint The Town Blue” will be available for $5 at North.

North softball coach to condcut callout meeting

New Columbus North softball coach Ron McDonald will hold a callout meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Room 1004A of the high school.

The meeting is for all girls interested in playing softball in the spring and their parents. If unable to attend, call McDonald at 812-344-6993.

Indiana Gold Bandits holding fastpitch tryouts

The Indiana Gold Bandits fastpitch softball team is conducting tryouts from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Greensburg youth diamonds by the city park.

The team is looking for pitchers, catchers and infielders. Those trying out should arrive by 12:30 p.m.

Middle school softball plans workout practices

The 2017 Columbus Middle School Softball team is having workout practices beginning from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at Northside Middle School. Seventh- and eighth-graders are welcome.

Labor Day Sting coming to county fairgrounds

Hoosier Pro Wrestling will return to Columbus on Sept. 3 with the Labor Day Sting.

Action will begin at 7:45 at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds Family Arts Building. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Admission is $12, with kids 4 and under free.

East coaches to host basketball camp at FFY

Former Columbus East girls basketball coach Mel Good and current East assistant Willie Humes will host the Good & Humes Basketball Camp Sept. 6 to 9 at Foundation For Youth for ages 5 through 8.

Small Ball Bash tourney on tap at Lincoln Park

The Cole Weddle Scholarship Small Ball Bash will be Sept. 24 and 25 at Lincoln Park. The co-ed softball tourney will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 24, and the men’s tourney will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 25.

Entry fee is $150 per team, with three games guaranteed. The signup deadline is noon Sept. 21.
