Gary Lee Ziegler, 69, of Brown County, passed into eternal life, with his family by his side, at 5:39 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2016, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born August 20, 1946, in Huntington, Indiana, to the late Wilbur Clifford Ziegler and Laura Betty (Plasterer) Ziegler.

Gary was an active member of Saint Agnes Catholic Church, Secular Order of Franciscans and Society of St. Vincent de Paul. He felt a call to help others and was active in the jail ministry at Bartholomew County Jail and was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for several years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Saint Agnes Catholic Church, 1008 McLary Road, Nashville, Indiana, with Monsignor Bill Stumpf and Deacon Bill Jones officiating. Following the mass, Gary will be laid to rest in the Christiansburg Cemetery in Brown County, near the family home. Friends are invited to a time of visitation from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, 3855 25th St., Columbus, Indiana, and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Gary is survived by his wife, Caryl (Varva) Ziegler, to whom he would have been married 47 years on August 22, 2016. To this union were born two children, Chris (Michelle) Ziegler of Paddock Lake, Wisconsin, and Beth (Christopher) Mohr of Edinburgh. He is also survived by two sisters, JoAnn (David) Nix of Huntington and Joyce (Steve) Parkison of Olympia, Washington; a brother, Lamar (Kay) Ziegler of Noblesville; and two grandchildren, Logan Ziegler and Celine Garczynski.
