PHOENIX — Authorities say a Phoenix man stole his mother’s gun before allegedly shooting a woman he’s accused of stalking.

Phoenix police say 19-year-old Maleqe Thompson was arrested Wednesday and is being held on suspicion of premeditated attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, burglary and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.

Bond was set at $650,000 for Thompson at his initial court appearance Thursday. He doesn’t have a lawyer yet.

Thompson is accused of shooting a woman last Thursday at a facility that offers affordable housing.

The victim is a staff member for the organization UMOM.

Police say Thompson and the victim were recently involved in a romantic relationship.

The woman was shot several times in the chest and torso and remains hospitalized in extremely critical condition.
