Indianapolis man arrested on domestic-battery charges

Columbus police arrested an Indianapolis man on domestic battery-related charges after he was accused of holding a knife to a woman’s throat during a disturbance.

Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman, said Shane D. Johns, 21, 1509 Kelly St., was arrested at 2:10 a.m. Monday on preliminary charges of:

  • Domestic battery with a previous conviction
  • Invasion of privacy with a previous conviction
  • Strangulation
  • Intimidation with a deadly weapon
  • Criminal confinement
  • Three Bartholomew County warrants

Officers were sent to a residence in the 500 block of 16th Street where the victim told them she had been held against her will inside the home and choked to the point of unconsciousness, Harris said. The victim also told police she had a no-contact order against Johns, Harris said.

Police found Johns at a nearby park a short time later, Harris said. The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Johns is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $45,636 bond, jail officials said.
