Students and school officials alike sang the praises of the new synthetic turf installed during the summer break at Columbus East and Columbus North high schools. Bob Gaddis, East’s athletics director, said the new fields had been used more since July 31 than during all of the 2005-06 school year.

Nearly 1,000 dogs began competition at Bartholomew County Fairgrounds during the AKC Dog Show and Obedience Trial.

City engineer Roger DeVore revealed plans to install median strips at heavily traveled streets near intersections to help reduce traffic accidents, but exact locations were not announced.
