Sheriff’s proposed budget increase 20.7 percent

Due to a Republic error, the percentage increase for the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department 2017 budget request reported in Sunday’s edition was incorrect. Sheriff Matt Myers said he is seeking a 20.7 percent increase in his 2017 budget.

The data used to determine the percentage in comparing this year’s budget to next year’s proposed spending plan only relied on monies in the county’s general fund and did not include $1.4 million provided to the sheriff’s department for 2016 from county economic development income tax revenue.

Also due to a Republic error, the 2017 budget amount currently requested for the sheriff’s department operations from the county’s general fund was incorrect in a graphic on Page A3 Sunday. The amount should have been $4,411,234.
