Brian’s picks – August 25

Jump at the chance to experience the wild and wonderful blend that is Hudson Hornet. The band plays music ranging from the Beatles to Buck Owens, a mix so varied that it might as well be tunes from Slim Whitman or Jon Bon Jovi. See them at the Columbus Area Arts Council’s final JCB NeighborFEST street concert from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 1 in front of The Commons, 300 Washington St. Food and drinks are available. After listening to a few of Broadway performer Adam Pascal’s original rock tunes last week, I swear I heard tinges of David Bowie in the texture of of some of his vocals. Say what you want about some of the famed “Rent” show lyrics being simplistic, I love his singing. Although friend and musical partner Anthony Rapp boasts his own talent, I probably could sound great next to Pascal. The duo headlines the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic’s next “Cabaret at The Commons” at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 25 at The Commons, 300 Washington St. The preferred $35 tickets were the only ones remaining at press time. Information: 812-376-2638 or thecip.org.
