Earl Thomas Young Sr., 74, passed from this earthly life on Monday, August 15, 2016, at North Delta Hospice House in Southaven, Mississippi
Earl was born in Owenton, Kentucky, Sept. 1, 1941. He was the second of seven sons born to Henry Gaither and Mary Louise (Livers) Young. He graduated high school from Lincoln Institute, Shelby County, Kentucky, in 1958. Earl moved to Columbus with his family in 1968. He worked for Sears, Inc. then went on to build a successful career as an Allstate Insurance agent for more than 20 years. Earl was a member of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Indiana, Golden Crown Lodge #34 in Columbus
Earl was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James, Harry, George, Roy and Robert (Bobby) Young; grandson, David Shuff; and great-grandson, Bryce Bair.
He is survived by former wife, Mary Young‐Bey, of Columbus, Indiana; one brother, Henry (Paulette) Young; his children, Victor (Amy) Young, Edinburgh, Earl (Debra Merriweather) Young Jr. and Angela (Dennis) Campbell both of Olive Branch, Mississippi, Ricky (MaryAnn) Johnson of Erlanger, Kentucky, Lula Young of Columbus, Indiana, Anthony (Marimichelle) Young of Hope, Indiana; grandchildren, Shaun Lawson, Las Vegas, Nevada, Charity (Rocky) Humphreys, San Diego, California, Kevin Young‐Bey and Lionel Wilkinson of Indianapolis, and Tynisha Lawson, Earl Young III, Jordan Young, Imani Campbell and Chaz Young all of Memphis, Tennessee; Anthony (Kasee) Young Jr., Brandon Young, Sydnie Young and Ayana Young all of Hope, Indiana; 14 great-grandchildren; and a score of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A Memorial service will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3 at Faith, Hope & Love Church of God in Christ, 11401 E. State Road 7, Elizabethtown, Indiana 47232. A ‘Celebration of Life’ repast will follow at the Hampton Inn in Edinburgh.
