PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The day after a 30-year-old Cumberland woman was fatally struck by a bus at Providence’s Kennedy Plaza, officials say they are considering new plans for the downtown transportation hub’s future.

Rhode Island Department of Transportation Director Peter Alviti told WPRI-TV ( ) on Thursday that the agency is planning to move the bus depot from the plaza to nearby One Central Station.

Michelle Cagnon was killed Wednesday morning when she was struck by a Peter Pan bus at the treacherous plaza. Police are still investigating the crash.

Voters approved a $35 million bond for the project to move the bus hub in 2014. But Alviti says RIDOT plans to team with the private sector to possibly expand the project to more than $100 million with additional improvements.

This story has been corrected to show that the project is to move the bus hub, not Kennedy Plaza.
