Mrs. Elsie Meyer Freese, 84, of Indianapolis, passed away August 24, 2016. She was born May 25, 1932 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Carl H. and Elda Bade Meyer. She married C. Robert Freese on June 16, 1951, and he preceded her in death on June 23, 2014, after 63 years of marriage.

Survivors include son, Kirk Freese; daughters, Karen Leffler, Kathy Wolter (Mike) and Karla Freese; sister, Alice Bernat (Ed); brothers, Robert Meyer (Jan), Erven Meyer (Norma), Harold Meyer (Anne) and Don Meyer (Pat); grandchildren, David Wolter, Tara Freese, Darlene Rodriguez and Kyla Eaton (James); and great-grandchildren, Cenzo Serger, Jackson Eaton, Ava Eaton, Santino Serger, Robert James Eaton and Isabella Eaton.

A grandson, Daryl Wolter, preceded her in death.

Elsie graduated from Franklin Township High School in 1950. In high school, she played in the band for four years, serving as student director her senior year. She was also a cheerleader her senior year.

Elsie retired from Franklin Township Schools, serving as administrative assistant for the guidance department and for the principal. She and her husband loved to travel. She was proud that they had visited all 50 states, with the highlight being driving to Alaska in 1989. Elsie and Bob spent 19 years in Florida enjoying their retirement. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

A lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church at Five Points, she served several years as a Sunday school teacher and several years as the girls’ volleyball and relay coach for the grade school.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2016, and from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church, 6630 Southeastern Ave., Indianapolis. Interment will immediately follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Elsie’s memory to St. John Lutheran Church and School.

Final care and arrangements are entrusted to Shirley Brothers Thompson Road Chapel.
