Charles “Ray” Jessie, 74, of South Cherry Street, went to join the Lord at 2:20 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2016, at his home.

Charles was born June 2, 1942, in Glasgow, Kentucky, the son of Charles Henry and Ida Lear Poor Jessie. He married Annie Pearl Ballard, daughter of Lesco and Kathleen Ballard, Dec. 12, 1959. Together they had seven children and raised a nephew, Vicky (Phil Pace) Leonard, Danny (Marcella) Jessie, Todd Jessie, Sharon (David) Anderson, Kim (Jay) Brooks, Randy Jessie and Jason Jessie, all of Columbus, and Henry Spencer of Glasgow, Kentucky; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Sue(Curtis) Pulliam of Hope; and several nieces and nephews.

Ray was a carpenter and jack of all trades.

He loved life, fishing, gardening and helping Annie can the vegetables they grew.

He was a great husband and father, and he loved Annie, his children and grandchildren very much. He loved spending time with his children around the campfire, hunting rabbits, squirrels and mushrooms, along with eating watermelon.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Revs. Roger Poynter and Glenn Poynter officiating. Calling will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until time of service Monday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild.
