Emma Jean Smith, 80, of Columbus, passed away at 3:10 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2016, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Emma was born Sept. 30, 1935, in Wise, Virginia to Hughes and Anna B. Beverly Masters. She married Bruce Manuel Smith.

Emma was a devoted, active member of Lowell General Baptist Church and received great joy from providing loving care to others.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, at Lowell General Baptist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Glenn Poynter officiating. Calling will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at Jewell‐Rittman Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Burial will be held at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Vada A. (Kenneth) Spencer of Scipio, Tommy Dave (Tammy) Smith of Columbus, Sherry L. (Chuck) Luse of Hamilton, Ohio, Charles R. Smith, Jennifer S. (Steve) O’Connell of Franklin and Kenneth R. Smith of Columbus; brothers, Charles T. Masters, Ed Masters and Billy R. Masters all of Wise, Virginia; a sister, Eulena Holbrook of Bristol, Tennessee; also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bruce on Nov. 26, 1980; sisters, Grady Marshall, Mildred Skeen and Valena Sue Salyer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lowell General Baptist Church, Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or American Cancer Society.
