Hayden museum planning auto-themed historical day

Staff Reports

Hayden Historical Museum leaders are finalizing plans to host a living history day with an automobile theme for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the museum, 6715 W. County Road 20S.

Using its 1947 Sinclair gas station as the centerpiece, the museum would like to transform its property into a giant, one-day display of classic cars and trucks, model year 1991 and older.

No entry fees, judging, prizes or awards will be involved in the Auto Daze event. The intent is to have fun and give car enthusiasts a chance to show off their vehicles.

The event will include rock ā€˜nā€™ roll and popular music performed by The Reunion Band on the pavilion stage, starting at 10 a.m. Starting at 1 p.m. and continuing throughout the afternoon, bluegrass and gospel music will be provided by the bands Infinity, Liberty Hill, Homeward Bound, High Octane, Friends of Bluegrass, Backwoods Bluegrass, Bluegrass Revival and Midwest Station.

Other attractions during the day include:

Hayden Historical Museum and A Place Called Yesterday

Demonstrations at the Sullivan Blacksmith Shop

A pie-baking contest, with the top three pies to be auctioned

Spencer Township Volunteer Fire Department chicken barbecue

Luke Elsner Memorial 5K Run & Walk

Classic car and truck parade, 3 p.m.

Pie contest participants can bring one or more fruit pies to the museum between 9 and 11 a.m. Judging will begin at 11, and the pies will be graded on appearance and taste. Awards will be given for first, second and third place.

Volunteer auctioneer Tom Lawson will auction the top three pies at 11:45 on the pavilion stage. The remaining pie entries will be sliced and offered in exchange for a free-will donation.

A portion of the proceeds from the pie contest will benefit the fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade students who make up the Hayden Little Hoosier Historians, and some of the donations will be added to the Ed Whitcomb house preservation project fund.
