EASTHAM, Mass. — The National Park Service is hosting a free screening of “The Finest Hours” and a talk with the author of the book that inspired the film.

The showing of the 2016 Disney film that starred Chris Pine and Casey Affleck happens Monday evening at the Cape Cod National Seashore’s Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham.

Michael Tougias, who co-authored the book, “The Finest Hours: The True Story of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Most Daring Sea Rescue,” will give a presentation on the actual rescue Tuesday evening.

The book and movie are based on the dramatic February 1952 rescue of crews on two oil tankers that broke apart off the shores of Cape Cod during a ferocious nor’easter. Of the 84 men aboard the tankers, 70 were rescued and 14 died.
