PATERSON, N.J. — A man accused of crashing a stolen police car in Clifton after injuring an officer is due to make a court appearance.

Authorities say 22-year-old Edgar Ordonez will make his first appearance by video conference on Monday afternoon.

Ordonez is charged with carjacking, aggravated assault, resisting arrest and weapons offenses.

Prosecutors say the theft occurred Friday when Nutley police responded to a home to investigate a reported domestic violence incident. They say Ordonez got in the patrol car and drove away, injuring an officer who tried to stop him.

Ordonez was captured a short time later by Clifton police after crashing with a sport utility vehicle on Route 3.

It’s not known if he has a lawyer.
