EASLEY, S.C. — Deputies say an Easley man stabbed his roommate to death following an argument over money.

Citing arrest warrants, local media outlets report 58-year-old Richard A. Hagins was taken into custody early Sunday and charged with murder in 53-year-old Jeff L. Chandler’s death.

Pickens County sheriff’s spokesman Hashe says in a statement that deputies received a call Friday night about a stabbing at an Easley home.

County coroner Kandy Kelley says Chandler died of a stab wound to the chest.

Hashe says Hagins and the victim argued over money before the stabbing.

He says two other people were inside the home at the time and a knife believed to have been used in the slaying was found at the scene.

It’s not immediately clear if Hagins has an attorney.
