DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are investigating the death of a 3-year-old girl found inside a van on a city street.

Police spokesman Wil Glenn said in a statement that officers were called about 7 p.m. Monday and found the child in the van.

Police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said in a statement Tuesday that the victim was Leslie Ramirez of Durham. Michael said the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Michael said a family member found the girl.

An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death.
