CLOVIS, N.M. — Clovis police say an officer was grazed by a bullet fired by a suspect the officer was trying to arrest.
Police say the officer was treated at a hospital for a thigh wound he suffered Monday night when a man he was trying to arrest fired a handgun.
The statement says the officer was shot during a struggle when he tried to arrest 34-year-old Anthony Baca after discovering during a traffic stop that Baca was sought in an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court.
The statement says Baca ran away and a search near the shooting scene was unsuccessful.
Police Capt. Roman Romero said Baca remained at large Tuesday. He’s now sought on an arrest warrant alleging aggravated battery upon a police officer and other crimes.
