PINEVILLE, S.C. — Authorities say a couple from the Berkeley County community of Pineville has died in a car accident near their home.

Local news outlets report the accident happened about 10 p.m. Monday on state Highway 45. The South Carolina Highway Patrol says a compact car swerved off the highway and hit a tree, killing the driver and a passenger.

Coroner Bill Salisbury says the wreck killed 48-year-old Sharlen Robinson and her 68-year-old husband James Robinson. Sharlen Robinson was driving and was not wearing a seat belt. Her husband was wearing a seat belt.

Pineville is about 20 miles north of Moncks Corner on the opposite side of Lake Moultrie.
